Call for Submissions: "U.S. Catholic Historian" issue "Aesthetics"

    Future Issue:  

    Aesthetics: Art, Architecture, and Music

     

    For more than thirty-five years the U.S. Catholic Historian has published theme-based issues relevant to the history of American Catholicism.  An upcoming issue will address the theme of Aesthetics: Art, Architecture, and Music. Contributions could include, but are not limited to, historical studies of the following:

    • ·     =  U.S. Catholic painters, sculptors, composers, etc.
    • ·     =  Religiously-themed or inspired aesthetics and its impact on American Catholic life.
    • ·  == The building, design, and ornamentation of U.S. Catholic cathedrals, churches, and schools.
    • ·     = Catholic organizations and publications supporting the arts, including Liturgical Arts and Catholic Art Quarterly, etc.
    • ·    =   Formulation, implementation, or response to liturgical, ecclesial, or architectural directives, i.e., the U.S. Bishops’ “Environment and Art in Catholic Worship” (1978), “Built of Living Stones” (2000), etc.
    • ·       Art and music education and training in American Catholic schools and institutions.

    Scholars considering a submission are asked to contact the editor, Fr. David Endres at DEndres@mtsm.org before preparing a contribution. Approximate length is 7,000-10,000 words. We ask for submissions by February 1, 2021 and look forward to hearing from potential contributors.
