We invite proposals for papers engaging the theme of the annual meeting, "Religion, Economics, and Culture in Conflict and Conversation." Of particular interest are proposals for papers exploring these topics: (a) for a co-sponsored session with the World Religions section, spirituality in a global context (e.g., inculturation, spirituality in interreligious dialogue, comparative studies of spirituality in different religious traditions); (b) spiritualities of political engagement (e.g., spirituality in current debates about the economy and health care; spirituality, war, and peace; applications of spirituality studies to the work of figures like Wangari Maathai, Thomas Merton, Paolo Freire, Dorothy Day); (c) the implications of postcolonial thought for the study of Christian spirituality; (d) teaching spirituality in light of economic realities and cultural diversities. Compelling proposals on topics unrelated to the annual meeting theme will also be considered. Proposals should be clearly situated within the academic field of spirituality and demonstrate familiarity with contemporary methodologies in the field. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the field, papers may draw on biblical, historical, theological, scientific, social scientific, political, literary, or other relevant disciplinary perspectives on spiritual experience and practice. Proposals should be 150-250 <callto:+1150-250> words long; please do not send complete texts. Send proposals simultaneously to Tim Hessel-Robinson at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Proposals for the shared session with World Religions should be sent as well to John Sheveland at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
