We invite proposals for papers engaging the theme of the annual meeting, “Found in Translation: Living Faith in New Contexts.” Compelling proposals on topics unrelated to the annual meeting theme will also be considered. Of particular interest are proposals for papers exploring these topics:
(a) the appropriation of past spiritualities for the present day; (b) using translations of “classic” spiritual texts in the classroom; (c) encounter and dialogue of Eastern and Western spiritualities; (d) liturgical spirituality and the Catholic Church’s new English missal; (e) the spirituality associated with Our Lady of Guadalupe; (f) spirituality and mestizaje; (g) the New Universe Story as a “creation story for all cultures”; (h) the translation of apophatic spirituality into word and thought.
Proposals should be clearly situated within the academic field of spirituality and demonstrate familiarity with contemporary methodologies in the field. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the field, we welcome papers that draw on biblical, historical, theological, scientific, social-scientific, political, literary, or other relevant disciplinary perspectives on spiritual experience and practice. Please send proposals to both Colleen Carpenter at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
