The Mysticism and Politics section invites papers on a variety of topics related to mystical-political theology and practice. We especially invite topics related to this year’s theme, “Found in Translation: Living Faith in New Contexts.” We encourage creative exploration of this theme vis a vis political theology, including the following: the opportunities/richness possible in the self-examination of the colonizing subject position; the challenges and possibilities for conversion inherent in multiple theological cultures sharing the same space; comparative study of “engaged” mystical-political practices outside the Christian traditions; the role of interfaith dialogue in the practice of political theology and/or in justice movements; and pedagogical challenges/opportunities for “translating” political theology with students, particularly in teaching about suffering of the other and suffering in one’s own life. Other creative responses to the theme or other topics in mysticism and politics are also encouraged.  Proposals should be directed via email to the conveners listed above.  Proposals are due no later than Dec 1.
