This section welcomes both paper and panel proposals related to the study of marriage and family, including proposals relating to the engagement/courtship time, from across theological disciplines. This year’s conference theme, “Found in Translation: Living Faith in New Contexts,” particularly invites reflection on the task of faithfully living out Christian marriage and family life in the unique contemporary American context. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following: reflections on the hermeneutical proficiencies needed to become good “translators” in marriage and family life, especially in light of increased levels of interchurch and inter-religious marriages; a study of the way that marriage and family is translated into liturgy and liturgical life; an exploration of the hurdles and opportunities present in interpreting how to live a faithful family life in relation to increasing levels of divorce, separation, annulment and/or cohabitation; the moral/ethical issues present in dating or parenting in a digital age; and an examination of the unique social and religious challenges faced by immigrant families in the American context.
