The Race and Diversity Section invites papers and panels for the 2012 convention. All proposals will be considered. Preference will be given to proposals that address this year’s conference theme, Found in Translation: Living Faith in New Contexts, as well as those making connections to the conference's host city, San Antonio. The following are examples of topics that might (but need not) be addressed:
the role of U.S. immigrant theologians in contemporary theology
liberation theologies addressing immigrants and non-native English speakers as the oppressed
translating theology into diverse social and cultural contexts
teaching theology in diverse classrooms and a diverse world
resistance to diversity
the rhetoric of nationalism
the othering of "illegals"
wall-building
border-crossings
English-only legislation
acculturation and enculturation
Proposals should be between 250-500 words and include the author’s name, professorial rank, institution, and contact information.
